What is Bufo?

Bufo is the venomous, potent psychedelic secretion of the Sonoran Desert toad, also known as the Colorado River toad (Incilius alvarius). The venom contains the psychoactive compound 5-MeO-DMT, a powerful hallucinogen. When the dried secretion is smoked, it can induce intense, spiritual, and ego dissolving experiences.

The Bufo Ceremony Itself

Facilitated with deep reverence, gentle guidance, and hands on care, the ceremony is designed to allow for complete surrender, held in the arms of safety and trust.

Daytime Bufo Alvarius (5-MeO-DMT) Ceremony. Suggested donation: $444.

Join us for a sacred Bufo ceremony, a profound and rapid journey into unity consciousness, facilitated with deep reverence within a container of safety, trust, and love. Often described as a direct experience of the divine, this sacrament offers the opportunity for complete surrender, ego dissolution, and a felt sense of connection to something greater than the self. Guided by experienced, trauma informed facilitators, the ceremony is held with gentle presence and hands on care from beginning to end. We use only the purest medicine, sourced with respect and prayer.

Two Guided Preparation Meetings

To ensure your heart, body, and spirit are ready, we hold two intentional group (or private) preparation gatherings in the weeks leading up to ceremony. These help you align with the medicine, set sacred intentions, and meet your facilitators and fellow travelers. Meeting links will be shared in the dedicated chat thread and posted to the Aya Denver "Events" tab.

Attendance at both prep meetings is mandatory for anyone wishing to sit in ceremony with us. Prep meetings are offered at no cost as long as you attend at the scheduled time, make up sessions are available for $50 each, in respect for our facilitators' time. A mandatory individual intake is also scheduled with each participant in the weeks prior to ceremony.

Screening and Safety

Bufo (5-MeO-DMT) is fast acting and profoundly intense, and safety begins well before the ceremony itself. All participants complete a screening to review medical history, current medications, and psychological readiness prior to being accepted into ceremony.

Because 5-MeO-DMT can interact seriously with certain medications and conditions, the following are contraindications for this sacrament:

  • MAOIs, SSRIs, SNRIs, or other serotonergic medications, due to risk of serotonin syndrome

  • History of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar I disorder

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure or serious cardiovascular conditions, including recent heart attack or arrhythmia

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Certain seizure disorders

  • Recent use of stimulants or other psychoactive substances

Unlimited Integration Support

After ceremony, we walk with you. Whether it's the day after or weeks later, our integration support is ongoing, because awakening is not a moment, but a process. You are not alone on the path.

Following ceremony, we offer grounding food and a warm, loving environment where you can gently return to the body and connect with others, heart to heart. Throughout the journey, you are lovingly supported by a dedicated team trained not only in safety, but in presence, prayer, and compassionate care.

Day of Ceremony

Participants are allowed to drive home after ceremony, pending release by facilitation staff. Due to the intensity and brevity of the experience, participants are asked to arrive rested, hydrated, and having followed any pre-ceremony dietary guidance provided by our team.

“I came across this toad, this Bufo, and I smoked this medicine, and it changed my whole life. I’ve never been the same since... It’s almost like dying and being reborn.”
